Hello to all my followers. I have decided to increase the monthly cost of subscription here.
Four years ago, I began to paywall some of my content as a way to make this more viable. Since then, my following has increased about 100x on Twitter and 6x on Youtube, but my amount of paid subscribers is actually slightly lower, mostly due to me choosing to paywall less and less content. I have also faced financial deplatforming on other platforms, being banned from PayPal, Ko-fi and BuyMeACoffee.
I had a look at the rankings of top political substacks: the three publishers ranked ahead of me charge €8, €8 and £7, and the three behind me charge $10, $8 and $7. John Waters, the other big Irish politics writer, charges €10.
So, putting me more in line with world politics substack industry standards, I will be setting a new monthly price of $8 (or €7). The annual price will now be $80.
This will come into effect immediately for new subscribers, but I don’t want existing subscribers to be taken by surprise and give them a chance to cancel if they wish, so I will wait a week before changing it for existing subscribers.
If you’re a free subscriber, you will still get access to all my essays going forward. For paid subscribers, I plan to release more exclusive interviews soon, similar to last week’s show on the Ukraine War.
I will soon be publishing another essay on “ethnopolitics” as a follow up to my essay on the Roman Empire, which you can read here.
I am also hoping to release a book, which will likely be early next year. Currently, this is likely to be a collection of the essays I have been writing here, with some additions.
Without doing a full recap, my work has had a huge influence in the past year. This publication is now one of the top 10 most read in Ireland and one of the most read in politics in the world. My X account reached half a billion impressions last year, and the impact #BanTheADL had on opening discussion about the influence of “the lobby” is still being felt. This is all possible thanks to your support, for which I am always grateful.
We appreciate you, Keith!
